Jageshwar Dham, Almora

Jageshwar Dham is considered one of the Jyotirlinga pilgrimage sites, although it is not part of the traditional 12 Jyotirlingas.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva meditated here, making it a sacred place for devotees.
The temple complex is also associated with funeral rituals and salvation rites, attracting devotees who perform Pind Daan and other ancestral rituals.
It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya visited Jageshwar and played a role in reviving the temple complex.

The Jageshwar Dham complex consists of over 125 stone temples, built in the Nagara style of architecture.

Jageshwar Mahadev Temple:
- The primary temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
- The sanctum houses a Shivlinga and idols of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva.
Dandeshwar Temple:
- The largest temple in the complex.
- Dedicated to Lord Shiva, with intricate carvings and stone sculptures.

- Dedicated to Lord Mrityunjaya, a form of Shiva associated with healing and protection from untimely death.
Surya Temple:

Kedareshwar Temple:
- Resembles the Kedarnath Temple in its architecture.
- Dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Navagraha Temple:
- Dedicated to the nine celestial deities (Navagrahas).
Pushti Devi Temple:
- Dedicated to Goddess Durga.
- Known for its finely carved stone sculptures.

According to legend, Lord Shiva meditated at Jageshwar, making it a divine center of power.
The Pandavas, during their exile, are believed to have visited Jageshwar and performed religious rituals here.
It is said that Adi Shankaracharya visited Jageshwar to revive Hinduism and contributed to the restoration of the temples.
