Dakshineswar Kali Temple
Dakshineswar Kali Temple is one of the most sacred Hindu temples in India, dedicated to Goddess Kali, in her form as Bhavatarini, the “Savior of the Universe.” Built by the philanthropist Rani Rashmoni in 1855, it gained prominence through its association with the mystic saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

- Built in Navaratna style (nine spires).
- Houses the idol of Goddess Kali standing on the chest of Lord Shiva (a classical depiction in Bengali tradition).
- The idol is placed on a silver lotus with 1000 petals.

- 12 Shiva Temples: Lined along the riverfront in traditional aat-chala Bengal architecture.
- Radha-Krishna Temple: Northeast of the main temple, built in Vaishnavite tradition.
- Nahabat (Music Room): Where Sri Ramakrishna lived and meditated.
- Nat Mandir (Prayer Hall): In front of the main shrine for gatherings and bhajans.
- Riverfront Ghat: For ritual bathing and offerings.
📜 History:
- Rani Rashmoni, a wealthy widow and devout follower of Kali, commissioned the temple after a divine dream.
- It was completed in 1855.
- Sri Ramakrishna served as the chief priest and attained spiritual enlightenment here.
- His spiritual consort Sarada Devi also stayed within the temple premises.
