Baidyanath Dham, a world-renowned pilgrimage site, is located in the district headquarters of Deoghar in Jharkhand. It holds the fifth position among the twelve revered Jyotirlingas. In ancient times, this land was known for its piety and picturesque beauty. It is mentioned in the Shiv Purana as Haritaki or Ketaki wood. A popular legend suggests that the heart of Sati fell here, after her body was dismembered by Lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakra. As such, Shiva and Shakti are both symbolically and physically present in this Jyotirlinga.
